Reekelitsoe Molapo is the Co-founder of Conservation Music Lesotho (CMLS), a non-profit delivering environmental education programs through music in Lesotho. In July 2020, she received a grant of £5000 from The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust (QCT) to assist in delivering vital COVID-19 services in Malealea; a rural eco-tourism community in Mafeteng.
This timely intervention enabled her team to undertake several activities around COVID-19 education and awareness. Reekelitsoe and her team conducted COVID-19 safety and prevention training. They extended food support to vulnerable households specifically to the elderly, people with disabilities, and people with chronic illnesses within the community. In addition, Reekelitsoe and the team produced an educational musical radio drama on COVID-19.
The work conducted by Conservation Music Lesotho made a significant difference in Malealea by helping slow down the spread of the virus and improving the community’s public health literacy. In total, 500 individuals received food relief packages, and 500 Community Health Workers and volunteers were trained. The trainings were conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Health.
