Nkrumah Dubazana — Founder of ALTO

Nkrumah Dubazana is a highly driven entrepreneur, using his passion for fashion and arts to revolutionize the industry in South Africa. He founded ALTO, a digital marketplace easily connecting consumers to producers through its online distribution platform. The platform offers convenient transactions, an online gallery to incubate and support artists and goes beyond putting on shows, promoting artists and selling their work. The platform renders services such as predictive analysis to assist clients and partners with identifying target markets for their products. Nkrumah says by generating data on spending patterns, ALTO is helping artists reach their target markets faster and more efficiently with low-cost marketing budgets.

In addition to his pioneering entrepreneurial work, Nkrumah maintains close relations with his community by working on several community development initiatives in the Eastern Cape. In 2018, he was involved in a government sponsored community development initiative which supplied furniture made from recycled waste to underprivileged schools in Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape.

Nkrumah says his participation in the YALI RLC-SA programme was transformational and an eye opening experience. It helped him design and refine his business models in addition to acquiring cutting-edge business skills that he continues to apply to his business.

During the fellowship, I established great relationships with fellows from across the southern Africa region. The conversations we had during the fellowship were stimulating and challenging, they gave me a broader perspective about life and I continue to leverage on the relationships created during the fellowship to drive my business by penetrating new markets across the region”. Says Nkrumah
